The Iceflow Lake Dig Site

event banner.jpg

Sparked by a fisherman's chance discovery of a small, seemingly unimportant shard that once belonged to a much larger stone tablet from the titanic age (-> A Surprising Catch (Event Teaser)), the Explorers' League is thrumming with excitement at the prospect of a heretofore unsuspected archaeological gold mine right before the gates of Ironforge.

And while the League's elders are busying themselves with discussing the implications of such a discovery and how best to go about surveying it, the Weary Boots are already on the scene, shovels, spades and fishing poles (hey, it's not all s'posed ter be work, lad!) at the ready.

If there's an undiscovered mystery resting under the waters of Dun Morogh, the Boots are sure to find it - and have a nice, warm mug of grog while they do.

Date:
4 August 2008
Time:
18:00
Location:
Iceflow Lake, Dun Morogh, the opening in the ice a little to the north of Brewnall
Event details:

The Weary Boots are an association of old-hand Explorers' League veterans that have grown somewhat disgruntled with the current direction the League is taking and prefer to take matters into their own hand, relying on the information flow through their old boys' (and gals') network to be first on the scene whenever something exciting is happening.

They are, however, also always open to new talent joining their ranks. Should a young, gifted Explorer find their way to the Iceflow Lake dig site, it is quite probable that he may be allowed to have a part in the discoveries to be made - provided he can hold his beer!

OOC details:

This is a recruitment event for the Weary Boots guild, a network of dedicated members of the Ironforge Explorers' League whose fascination with the various creation myths - especially, of course, the Mystery of the Makers - has drawn them together in a tightly knit circle, harking back to the days when the hoary League was young.

Whoever feels the call of the Explorer may join us for this event, even though we'll glance askance at Night Elves, Squids and TDOW's (Tall Drinks Of Water, a.k.a. humans) and probably not offer them beer.

Ideally, if you show up for this, you're either a member of the Weary Boots or wish to become one, have some ties to the Explorers' League or a character background that would fit you into this event even if you don't want to join. As demonstrated above, being a Dwarf or an Explosive Nuis-... a Gnome definitely helps to get in on things and won't force us to bend the lore too much.

If you do have an Elven Astranaar Jones set up to drop by, be prepared for a good-natured IC ribbing. You'll still get to dive down to the bottom for scraps and stone shards eventually though, so don't worry.

The event will consist of setting up our camp site, gathering provisions from Brewnall Village, going hunting from time to time, having a wee drink together because that's how dwarves do it, and hurling ourselves into the ice cold water to dive down to the bottom looking for ancient clues and artifacts.

There will also be a bit of prospecting, as some of the Explorers' League's geologists are quite intrigued by a rock formation protruding from the ground, which doesn't seem quite naturally placed. Perhaps, the thinking goes, there's a blocked-off entrance down there somewhere! Careful probationary diggings and circumspect research should bring the answer to that question.

If you think this might be fun, do come! And bring your shovel - and, ideally, a gnomish diving helmet!

Schedule

We will be at the site both Sunday, August 3rd and Monday, August 4th, beginning at 18:00 h Server Time. There is no fixed end for Sunday, and a near guaranteed schedule ending the event at 21:00 h on Monday, just in time to drag the rowdy bunch off to Cinderblock's tavern opening and hopefully continue drinking there.

Ground Rules:

  • IC in /s and /y
  • PvP Off - we're not declaring war on the fish
  • Don't bend the poor lore any more than necessary
  • Make it fun for everybody! There is no main character here. We're all equally (un)important
