Better Horde news: The Campfire
Respond to this in the Blizzard forums:
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=5567877146&sid=1
Goal:
To create a newsfeed on the Archives that opposes the Argent Post, both in content and presentation, preferably with a strong Horde atmosphere.
Criterias:
The new solution must be:
Easily monitored by the AA Web Team.
Easy to use for all AA members.
Not subject to news “overflow”. (Too many news means no news.)
Free of OOC content.
NB!
The Argent Post sets relatively high requirements to content, presentation and language skills. Though content and presentation will differ from the Argent Post, we will still require a certain level of grammar and spelling.
Only real news and tales will be allowed. This will not be a shoutbox or a way of running conversations back and forth publicly.
The Solution (?) – The Campfire
What?
The new feature will be called “The Campfire” and represents all stories told by mouth all over Azeroth. Some will be stories of simple bravery, others will carry with them the latest orders from Orgrimmar. Currently the name of these news are “tales”.
How?
A “tale” is created the normal AA way. (Choose Create content>Campfire Tale.)
It consists of four required boxes.
Box 1: Title.
Box 2: Banner
Box 3: A description of the tale.
Box 4: The actual tale.
Optional boxes might include:
Link to guild, link to newsfeed, link to event, and link to Plotline.
Where?
The new newsfeed will be situated on the frontpage directly beneath the Argent Post news and above the “Latest Adventures”. (If it does not break the code of the site, this will be optional.)
But how?
Tales, like ads, will not appear automatically. Once written and submitted they will go through a screening process by the Web Team to check that spelling is correct and OOC content is left out. (You didn’t think we would let anyone a chance of putting OOC stuff on the frontpage?) Stories that meet the criteria will be allowed onto the frontpage.
FAQ
So finally a newsfeed just for Horde!
Sorry, but the Campfire, like the Argent Post, is faction neutral. That means both factions can use it, though opinions of the posters will differ strongly. Note that the Web Team will always strive to balance the Alliance/Horde story ratio.
A banner? I don’t know how to make banners! FFS…
A standard issue “Campfire” banner will be the default, though people are encouraged to upload a 590x150banner to give their tale a bit more personality. The banner will not appear on the frontpage.
Sweet! I will spam the campfire with my tales and news!
Sorry. Only one tale per person per week. Choose your tale with care!
So, how do I write these news and tales really?
News/tales from the Campfire cannot be written anonymous. Your tale was told by the character you post it on. You can either write it entirely as a monologue, or as a story revolving around your character telling the story to an audience. Your character might just be “relying” the story from someone else, but ultimately s/he is responsible for his words. Those that do not honour the Campfire will soon be regarded as false newsagents.
But what if I just want to put out a short message? Like “Orgrimmar under Siege!”
That will be for another time.
“The Campfire”? Seriously Alabast, check your vocabulary. There must be a better name for this feature!
Yes, please tell.
