Rain and reign in Ashenvale
As is typical for the homelands ... rain and dark skies, yet the unmistakable feeling of homecoming, safety.
The elves do not know who I am. Some do, but I dare say I am glad few of them pay attention to what is said about me. Unlike others, they do not take over judgement of foreigners, nor base themself on what they heard. No ... These elves know that to understand events, you have to live the events. Perhaps this is the wisdom of their age.
Never had I expected to find this many elves returned to the homelands. Ashenvale seemed occupied. Here, I refoud that aura I always needed to feel a part of this world. The aura of discovery. What these elves were doing, was wonderful.
As the day passed by, I met many interesting elves. My wife, Eliras, would like them. They were open, but still preserving their elven spirit. They were not like the elves from Stormwind. Edhellen, my daughter, felt secure around them from the start. She knows this is her home. These elves are her only brothers and sisters.
"There are some humans in purple robes standing in the town square". I emediatly knew who they were, yet not what they did here. I picked up my armor and headed downstairs, very well knowing what could happen if things went wrong.
Dalar had been accused of practicing the arcane sorcery near an elven, sacred place. He had not asked for permission, nor bothered enough about potential concequences. As some around me said, he probably hardly prepared for the ritual.
The officers present, being Alissêa of the silverleaf Scouts and Captain Laythe of the Mystral Blades, made a rather long, private debate on the sentence. Concluding that the ones known as the Kirin Tor were to be exiled from elven land, and Dalar to be executed in three days.
Not accepting this verdict, Dalar and his men started arguing. History, examples, laws ... Nothing seemed valid enough to me for a judge to take into account. 'Your law clearly only applies to elves'. They did not understand that in these lands, humans are not all that expected to hang around. Once a guest, you shall apply to rules of the host. If elves were to be punished for a matter, certainly this too applied for humans and other races. What happened in the past does not concern them. Elves are not from the Kingdomes. Elves know diffrent virtues, diffrent honors, give diffrent interpretations to things. But noone but an elf could truely understand.
Informed of Ystra's plan, I sat down to consider what she wishes. A book, some sort of code of conduct, telling elves, some of ancient age, how to act. I could not help but agree with Laythe that this was an abhorable idea. Laws can be written down for elves. But not like Stormwind's law system.
She does not seem to trust in the elven preserve. While she herself has broken the ancient laws numerous times, let alone she was once part of The Arcane Alliance ...
But the elven presence in Astranaar is growing. I suspect many will return home some day, like I did. I hope they shall be prepared.
