My hidden reality, part 5

Part 4

Lorya was leaned back against a rock, overviewing the community of tents.
It had been three hours since she had arrived, and all she had been doing was just that; watching, thinking.
What she encountered when she arrived there surprised her greatly.
It was obvious that SI:7 didn't know how far the Ethereals had actually managed to go to set their plan into action.
She sighed.
Damn it...

Suddenly she put her hand into her pocket and picked up her golden wedding ring.
Is this a weakness?
Scheiders words still rang in her ears, and she slowly moved her hand in under her shirt to softly lay it flat over her belly.
She hated this place; Cold, dark and dead.
Lorya sighed, leaned her head against the cold, green rock and closed her eyes.
I'd rather be home... I can't deny it. I'd rather be with Ricaver right now, at the bar in the evenings, in Booty Bay at night...
Then she grinned to herself.
You still seek danger, don't you Lorya? What are you trying to prove..? And to who?

She stood up, all of a sudden sure of what to do, forcing the distracting thoughts out of her head.
And she went back to Stormwind.

Scheider had just smiled at her and shook his head.
He didn't even ask why she asked for this, he just gave her what she wanted, trusting her completely.
And there she was, back in the land of the green lava, back at her cliff above the land of the Ethereals. And in her hand a smaller sack filled with Black Diamonds.

Once again, her leather outfit was changed to softer clothes. Soft but dirty.
She had actually picked up dirt from the ground and rubbed it into the cloth, letting her hair free from the usual knot behind her head and done the same to that. She was itchy all over, but at that moment she couldn't feel it.

From where she stood she could see it clearly. Engineers working on this big machine that looked like a drill, the guards and the officer that from time to time swept through the camp, checking, inspecting, changing a few words with the master engineer and then heading back to his tents somewhere around the hill.

People were constantly leaving and entering the camp. Not only Ethereals, she also saw humans, dwarves and gnomes. Traders obviously. Smugglers. Some went straight into one of the base tents, but most of them sat down around the fire that seemed to be placed in the centre of the camp, and the Ethereals would inspect their items, buying or trading them.

These guys are not dwarves Lorya, she reminded herself as she started to walk down the hill.
You better play your role good.
