Witch-Doctor Hana'zu Sinjeon

Name Hanazu
Occupation Scientist
Age Adult
Race Troll
Residence The Cleft of Shadow, Orgrimmar
Guild Darkspear Tribe
Outward Appearance

Hana'zu looks to be in his thirties, he is clean, smells strongly of some kind of disinfectant and wears his naturally red hair in a wild crest. He is thin, lacks any discernible muscle-mass and is of about average height.

He wears a somewhat flamboyant and very colourful mask constantly, to the point that it is generally unknown to most what his actual face looks like. Attached to this mask is a circular Otolaryngologist's mirror.

Hana'zu appears to be wearing a typical Horde military uniform; black and red chainmail armour and a loose tabard depicting the insignia of the Horde. Embroidered on the back of his cloak is some Zandalli script and the veve to the Loa Lukou.

Fastened to his belt is are multiple black leather pouches, a roll of surgical tools and a metal case containing a hypodermic syringe. He carries a black material satchel strapped over one shoulder which clinks with the sound of numerous vials knocking against one another.

Background

"An un-ending and ultimately morbid curiosity"

As far as personal records go not much is known about this Witch-Doctor other than that he is a Jungle Troll of the Darkspear Tribe. His last documented public appearance was as a Tactician-rank member of the Crimson Regiment shortly before its collapse. It is currently believed that he takes residence somewhere within the Cleft of Shadow, Orgrimmar where he stages medical operations and scientific experiments the ethics of which are debatable.

It is well known however that Sinjeon is very capable in his practice of contemporary science-or juju-and has also been known to keep a vast collection of his own written documents, articles and research journals. Yet he insists on writing them in Zandalli despite the majority of the Horde's scholars, apothecaries and researchers being primarily literate in either Goblin, Thalassian or Gutter-speak.

The Witch-Doctor is a follower of the loa and so despite appearing to practice contemporary forms of medicine and chemistry, it should not be assumed he is devoid of all traditional habits regarding his proffesion. He keeps a small household shrine depicticting Lu'kou, the loa of healing and respite at his clinic in the Cleft. He almost always leads short prayers involving inscence and offerings before performing any kind of surgery or complicated medical procedure.

As far as intelligence goes, Hana'zu displays brilliance and downright genius. His proficiency in physical combat however is incredibly poor as he is neither strong nor agile. Instead, his armour and war-axe only serve as part of his gaudy appearance and to distinguish himself as a card-carrying member of the Horde.

"No Hippocratic Oath, No Anesthesis, All Scalpels and Needles a' Plenty"

Though Hana'zu will involve himself with several other philosophies such as Engineering and Alchemy, he primarily thinks of and will refer to himself as a surgeon.

He takes alot of pride in his work and has gone so far as to take pride in the tools he uses; all of which are decorated with engravings and gold trim reminiscent of those on structures and weapons of Troll cities. All of them depict Lu'kou in some shape or form. Some of these tools and medicines have been identified:

  • Scalpel: The primary tool of any surgeon, the scalpel has existed and been put to use for years. It is a single piece of steel forming a small knife and a handle which has been bound in leather for grip.
  • Hypodermic Syringe: A relatively new innovation and one that has been noticed to be Hana'zu's favourite. It is a hollow needle for administering medicines directly to the bloodstream.
  • Suture: Another well-established item; A surgical suture is a small, crescent-shaped needle for stitching wounds and for closing incisions made during invasive surgery.
  • Dis-infectant: Whilst not exactly a new thing, Hana'zu feel the need to be obsessively cleanly where his proffesion is concerned.
  • Surgical Gloves: Another accessory to Hana'zu's focus on being clinical, he wears a pair of white cloth hand-wraps, the fingertips of which are almost always blood stained. This contradiction might imply that all the precautions in hygiene are to protect himself.

Hana'zu has a very observant approach to medical research. He will attempt to learn and understand by depicting and describing a natural phenomenon in as much detail as possible, one of his favourite pastimes is anatomical topography, a subject which he has dedicated a large portion of his own journals to.

In carrying out his work with topographical drawings, the witch-doctor has carried out hundreds on dissections and vivisections on various subjects; usually in the form of prisoners of war regarding the sentient category but also various creatures such as bears, apes, reptiles, birds, crocolisks, silithids and even one account of a jormungar.

Other procedures he claims to carry out in the name of healing sometimes appear to just be outright and blatant acts of sadism for no other reason than to sate his own morbid curiosity. Several instances of this have been recorded:

  • Subjecting prisoners to vivisection without anaesthesia.
  • Deliberately infecting prisoners to diseases in order to study the effects.
  • Unnecessary amputations on healthy limbs.
  • Surgically removing a stomach and having the esophagus attached directly to the intestines.
  • Portions of internal organs removed, including lobotomies.
  • Starvation in order to monitor the effects of hunger and thirst.
  • Injecting various different substances to internal organs and the bloodstream. Including animal blood, sea-water as well as different acids and chemicals.

It is also noteworthy that he will call the majority of his work regarding living things as "medical research" regardless of whether or not it is relevant.

All of the substances this Witch-doctor produces, administers or just has in possession of have been seen bearing a ribbon around the neck of it's vial. Only recently have these ribbons been identified as a colour code system pertaining to their effects. Listed here is the speculated chart of this code:

  • Pink: Substances of a safe and positive effect, usually in the recreational category such as psychoactive drugs and aphrodisiacs.
  • Green: Similar to pink as being safe and of a positive effect except with a medicinal purpose for use in treating minor ailments such as insomnia, colds, sores, aches and pains.
  • Yellow: Usually a higher strength of medicine only to be prescribed. These are often used to treat more serious health problems such as infections, moderate illnesses and to regenerate flesh and bone.
  • Orange: Cures and vaccinations to diseases and severe illness. Medicines of orange-ribbon and upwards are usually kept under lock and out of sight.
  • Red: For use primarily in surgical procedures. This can include anaesthetics, rubbing alcohol, blood packs and dis-infectants.
  • Purple: Dangerous with a negative effect. Items of this category usually include poisons, high strength acids and pathogens.
  • Black: Reserved for the most serious of highly dangerous substances. It is believed that Hana'zu kept the blood plague in a black-ribbon vial.
