Background
Many years ago a man was exiled from the city of Stormwind. Travelling to Arathi, he formed a group known as the Exiles of Arathor. As attacks began to pour onto Refuge Pointe from Hammerfall, the Exiles took up arms and used the ruins of Stromgarde as a base, rallying troops and fending off the Horde.
Months passed before, with the help of agents from SI:7, Arthurion Greymantle's name was cleared in Stormwind. The nobleman who had accused him was found to be corrupt and dealt with without too much hassle. From this day forth, the Exiles of Arathor were to be known as The Stormguard, a regiment of toughened troops based in the city of Stormwind, tirelessly working to combat those that would see her fall.
Though they started by aiding the recently formed Stormwind City Watch in matters that their manpower could not handle, The Stormguard were quickly called into a wide array of situations, ranging from the Battle At Thandol Span to the downfall of Nath Shadoweyes. Things eventually rose to a climax as Arthurion Greymantle was kidnapped and taken to Blackrock Mountain, replaced by a mysterious and charismatic figure named Kalius Drakemoore. Drakemoore claimed command over The Stormguard as well as the City Watch and apparently sought to bring peace to the city, yet some remained unconvinced. The efforts of The Stormguard's brave soldiers and Carinia Stormshadow, then head of the Watch's investigations department, revealed the traitor's true form, a black dragon in disguise. Arthurion was eventually found and reinstated, though all things had to come to an end.
The Stormguard disbanded around a year and a half ago, only to be reformed by Aerandul Nightwarden on the eve of the Vanguard Order's dissolution. A good friend of the old Captain himself, and past Commander of Alliance forces, she hoped to overcome the issues of her race and lead the Stormguard regiment back into fame.
These hopes were shortly dashed, however by Aerandul being declared missing in action. As previously Second in Command, it fell to Amarae the Devout to take up the reins only weeks after joining the Stormguard herself. Putting her experience in warfare and special methods of persuasion to good use, she intended to gain the Stormguard another era of glory.
Called into Stormwind as a permanent duty, the Stormguard were deployed to keep order and deliver justice as unrest in Stormwind escalated. Soon becoming known for brutal tactics and questionable justifications, the Stormguard found itself fighting against the guerilla tactics of the Order of the Fallen.
After weeks of bloodshed in the streets and public outcries to put a stop to what was named by some as a 'civil war', Riado Flamehammer of the Fallen was put on trial and sentenced to exile.
The Stormguard came time and time again at odds with the more placid methodologies of the City Watch, even being placed under arrest and court martialed, but they shared an awkward allegiance of convenience despite this.
The Stormguard forged a strong alliance with the Sons of Thoradin, and the companies have fought together several times against the Horde and the Forsaken. Rumour began to circulate of plans of marriage between Field Marshal Amarae and the Duke of Lordamere, leading the Sons of Thoradin. Tragedy struck at a critical moment, when Eward de Lordamere, Commander of the Sons and the main link between them and the Stormguard, was slain in battle against the Forsaken menace. Amarae was deeply affected by the loss, and since then has lead the Stormguard to become mostly solitary, working alone under the apparent aim of retaking Lordaeron and avenging Lordamere by themselves.
Tensions mounted between Amarae, the new Duchess of Lordamere lands, and Aeagor Blackriver, Son of Thoradin and bastard descendant of her late husband. What began as casual insult-slinging escalated to brawls, political conflicts and eventually clashing over the Duchy both were eager to secure for themselves. When grudges and hatred came to a fore, the Stormguard and Sons of Thoradin did battle in the streets of Stormwind, and Aeagor Blackriver was killed in the ensuing assaults.
Though victorious, the Stormguard were persecuted by the embittered City Watch, backed by the many people and powers that Amarae's harsh actions had crossed in one way or another. Despite the Field Marshal's efforts to prove their actions were in the name of Stormwind, the courts found the Stormguard guilty and banished them from the city.
The Stormguard, depleted in number, were seen lead by Amarae of Lordamere to the harbour of Stormwind, where they set sail for Northrend. They reportedly hold garrison in Valiance Keep, but little else is known to all but the marshal herself.
Those interested in joining the best of the best would be well-advised to get in contact with any of the officers listed. Combat experience, a strong sense of discipline and loyalty, and thick skin is expected of all applicants. Gnomes, Draenei, Night Elves, Death Knights and warlocks need not apply.
