Preparations and decisions
At last. It is soon time.
She had been sneaking around in Stormwind for several days, gathering information of worth about her targets. Perhaps they knew that she was there, perhaps they didn't. It hardly mattered anyway.
Aluuna knew that this strike would give her the satisfaction she longed so much for. This cold, primitive desire for justice was what fuelled her, and gave her the strength to keep living in the wilds like a beast.
She would strike them down one by one, swift and without mercy. With cold calculation, she would be able to tear their stable system down. Her fierce and ruthless determination made her arrogant and overconfident, and she did not even consider the possibility of failure.
Aluuna looked down at the necklace around her neck. The symbol of the Holy Light sparkled in the moonlight of Eversong, making it look even more beautiful than usual. She grasped it with a stern frown.
I am sorry Holden, but there is no other way. Justice must be done.
She loosened her grip around the symbol, still frowning. Was there a hint of guilt nagging somewhere in her mind? She shook her head. The feeling of regret disappeared swiftly and there was no trace left of it.
Her thoughts drifted to Ilharae, her "student". The manipulation went swiftly and mercilessly, and Aluuna knew that the young Elf would do anything to protect her. To further increase Ilharae's trust in her, Aluuna even pretended to lose her ice-cold mask, to make the student believe that she actually affected her teacher. Aluuna would train her to a personal soldier for the cause.
The perfect tool.
A sudden wave of self-disgust hit Aluuna like a punch in the face. Was it really necessary to ruin Ilharae's life? Perhaps she could find a way to not involve her in the plans. Yes, she would try that.
Why do I hesitate? Do I actually care for that annoying, loudmouthed Druidess?
Aluuna suspected that she did. And it could have fatal consequences for her plans. But to her huge surprise, she noticed that it didn't bother her too much. A soft frown escaped her otherwise impassive face.
To have someone so devoted, so blindly trusting, so caring... Maybe there is more to live for than justice after all.
Living like she did now, wandering the lands of Azeroth together with Ilharae wasn't so bad after all. In fact, she enjoyed it way more than she would ever admit to anyone. She could even imagine herself to stay in this situation permanently. It almost scared her.
Meh. Why am I getting soft at a time like this? Why now, when my focus and determination is needed elsewhere?
Knowing that she would have to make a decision soon, Aluuna's mind drifted away in confused thoughts.
